Day 1 – Discover Corte

Drive to Corte to discover the historic heart of the island. After settling into your hotel, why not explore the moody citadel on the newly finished heritage walk. Or take a short walk into the Restonica Gorge. A path will lead you into the gorge amidst a heady, warm Mediterranean vegetation of blue/black island lavender, the curry plant and juniper bushes. The cliffs soar up above and deep below you can glimpse the pounding torrent with its numerous rock pools. Stay at a 3*Hotel , in Corte on a B&B basis.

Day 2 – Canyoning in the Verghellu or the Vecchio

This morning sees the family Canyoning not far from Corte. The Vecchio is for younger families, this easy canyon is great for beginners, with jumps and obstacles and lots of splashing about! For older kids looking for that adrenelin rush, the Verghellu is great for either beginners or the more experienced. With easy access, you have plenty of fun to find including jumps and slides in crystal clear mountain water, a really great natural environment. After all this excitement, this afternoon, you move onto Saint Florent, a drive that takes you across the desert des Agriates. Time to explore town before a relaxing evening.

Day 3 – Sea Kayaking along the Agriates Coast

From the beach at La Roya, you set out to spend the morning discovering the creeks of the Agriates coastline.  The beach crew with give you a few pointers and advise you of the sea conditions before you set off, paddling on duo or solo “sit on top” sea kayaks, easy to manage and really stable.  Discover all the hidden coves in this area, around the headland you’ll find the phare de Fornali, a real sea adventure on this unspoilt section of coastline. After lunch, either a lazy afternoon relaxing on the beach or drive to the vineyards of Patrimonio and a short wander along the coast.

Day 4 – Walk to the Mortello Tower

From St Florent a walk takes you into the mysterious Desert des Agriates, and along the coastal path towards the Mortello tower. Admiral Lord Nelson was so impressed by these solid Genoese towers, he ordered for some to be built on England’s south eastern coast to keep out the French! The walk takes in some superb coastal scenery finally reaching this shattered tower that posed  such a challenge for the British fleet. Retrace your steps. This walk is an adventure as you need to wade across hidden bays to stay on the path.

Day 5 – Journey to Saleccia

Today you have one of two options, both with the same destination, the idyllic beach at Saleccia. For the more active, from the village of Casta, you head into the arid Agriates desert by mountain bike, along rough and rutted dirt trails, with over 300m descent, the return ride is in the back of a 4x4 so a little easier! If you prefer to approach by sea, take the boat to Lodu beach, and walk either via the coast or inland to Saleccia beach, just watch out for the cows! Saleccia is one of the most beautiful sights in Corsica, a real tropical paradise and is only accessible by boat or on foot. Great for a day out.

Day 6 – Discover Corsica’s Cape

Today you are heading around the Cap Corse, to your next base at Maccinaggio. The road is narrow, sinuous and goes from village to village, with ample to see en-route for all the family. The west coast of the Cap Corse offers sheer cliffs that drop into the sea. Discover the perched village of Nonza crowned with a Pisan tower, looming over a striking black pebble beach 120m below. Further up the Cap Corse, discover the quaint fishing village of Centuri and the Moulin Mattei high above, before heading to your nightstop tonight near the harbour in Maccinagio.

Day 7 – Custom Officer’s Path

You follow the customs officers path ‘chemin des douaniers’ around the remote Cap Corse, you pass naturally preserved beaches and abandoned and shattered watchtowers witness to the battles that were fought for this island. The walking is fantastic through a wild and natural coastal landscape, boat trip at end of the day from Barcaggio to Maccinaggio, your stop again for the night.
