Day 2 - Cap Corse to St Florent

Take either the Customs officers path to the shattered Santa Maria tower, the walk is coastal and leads from the beach travelling around the headlands past the Iles Finocchiarola. It takes about 1h45 mins to reach the Genoese tower with views over to the Tuscan Archipeligo. Another option is climbing to the village of Rogliano to explore the many chapels, tours and an old mine, all with fantastic views to the coast. Following your walk you can drive around the Cap Corse, visiting Centuri port, the delightful perched village of Nonza with its square Paoline tower and black stone beach. Nelson was so impressed by these solid Genoese towers, he ordered for some to be built on England’s south eastern coast to keep out the French! The walk takes in some superb coastal scenery finally reaching this shattered tower that posed  such a challenge for the British fleet. Following your walk into the Agriates, you drive across this remote area that was once the ‘basket’ of Corsica, to the Balagne region and the towns of Ile Rousse, and Genoese Calvi. Calvi is a stunning seaside town, backed by high mountains the town is crowned by a Genoese Citadel, which is great to explore and frozen in time. We offer a walk around the coast of the Revelata peninsular. The walk has great views, well worth a photo of two and the landscape through which you travel is typical of the area.  You could also visit the chapel of Notre Dame de la Serra, a shorter walk of around 1 hour or drive to the village of Lumio and visit the abandoned village of Occi, with stunning views out over the bay from this lofty position. If you just want to relax, try Calvi’s 5km of white sandy bay, backed with Parasol Pines.

The drive from Calvi down the west coast is one of the best you will ever do, simply beautiful! A picturesque, winding road takes you to  the sea at Galeria, before delving into the protected area that spreads along the West Coast. Today you have a couple of stunning walks prior to getting to Piana, either a long circular walk from the Col de la Croix to the remote seaside village of Girolata following the ‘postman’s path, (this can be shortened by a boat trip back towards Col de la Croix) or discover the Fango Valley, and the high mountains behind, follow the path to Manso, before looping back to Tuarelli. Stay at a 3* Hotel, Piana on a B&B basis.

Ota is a mountain village with a Mediterranean feel.  Another option is Capo Rosso and the Genoese tower, set out early to avoid the heat, the walk should not be underestimated. Should you prefer to take it easy, in Piana, why not just take one of the many shorter paths into the Calanches, the old mule path, a walk to the Chateau fort.
