The Balagne, also called the "garden of Corsica", is a micro-region rich in natural treasures. We offer you as a family, a range of activities to discover this magical region in all its forms, from the delightful seaside town of Algajola. On the program: biking, sea kayaking, snorkelling safari, canyoning in the Fango, adventure trails and unmissable hikes. You will stay in a comfortable hotel just steps from the beach with the added bonus of a swimming pool.

Day 1 - Arrive in Algajola

Arrive at your hotel, drop your bags and explore this sleepy seaside village. Algajola is a small village, which was home to the bishop of Corsica, and was a major port until L’Ile Rousse developed towards the end of the 18th century. The village has a number of restaurants and cafés and your hotel with its delightful pool is set just above the sea.

Day 2 – Biking through Balagne Villages

A morning devoted to the discovery of the villages of the Balagne, you set off with your bike guide to see the best of the Balagne. Perched villages are set on the chain of hills that back the coast, your guide knows all the best view points and you’ll discover villages and trails in the saddle to suit all the family. Duration of approx 3h00.

Day 3 – Sea Kayaking along the Coast

From the beach at Algajola, you can spend the morning (3h) discovering the creeks of the Balagne coast. With your guide you explore, paddle on “sit on top” sea kayaks as your discover all the hidden gems of this area, giving you an insight into the history, the flora and the fauna of this coast. After lunch, either a lazy afternoon relaxing on the beach or take the train to Ile Rousse (payable locally) to discover town. During the day, the village square sees countless games of pétanque, whilst people bustle about the market place or enjoy a leisurely drink under the plane trees.

Day 4 – Walking Calvi & Revellata peninsula

Take the short drive to Calvi, a spectacle to be seen; a citadel topped by a crest of ochre buildings, set against a backdrop of mountains. You walk onto the Revellata peninsula, a beautiful walk in an unspoilt area of maquis and sea cliffs. Head around the coast towards the lighthouse, a real highlight to the start of the trip. This protected area is a haven for wildlife, with much flora and fauna that is found only here. After the walk, why not take time to discover the Citadel at Calvi, this fortress town is great for exploring.

Day 5 – Sea snorkel safari

After a short ride in a Rigid Inflatable Boat, accompanied by your guide you explore the flora and fauna of this area of the Mediterranean. With mask and snorkel you discover two special sites that will allow you to swim alongside some incredible creatures. You are provided with all snorkelling equipment – all you need to do is enjoy the experience of swmming in this natural habitat, with the boat never far away. Duration approx 2h30.

Day 6 – Perched villages walking

You have a choice of walking today, either head up from the coast to the artisan village of Pigna and Corbara for easy strolls village to village, or after a short drive, from the village of Lumio, climb to the ruins of Occi. The village was deserted in the 20th Century, when no road could be built for access. The views from here towards Calvi are sublime. After a beautiful balcony path, drop back down to Lumio, then take a detour to Matahari beach for a dip at the end of the day.

Day 7 – Canyoning in the Fango

Rendez-vous for a day devoted to the discovery of the Fango canyon in this natural reserve, site classified by UNESCO. Situated near the coastal village of Galeria, the Fango is a wild river and this canyon offers a rhythmic descent of jumps (not obligatory), swimming, walking and slides into natural plunge pools, all in a simply beautiful setting. After such an active discovery, a well deserved rest by the pool at the hotel could close this day in paradise.

Day 8 - End of stay in Algajola

Your holiday in Algajola ends after breakfast, extra nights available.

Reservation fee of €5pp, travel insurance, drinks, picnics, transfer to and from Algajola and transfers between activities (car hire available), travel to Corsica.

Access

Calvi, Bastia or Ajaccio Airports or L'Ile Rousse, Bastia or Ajaccio port. If you arrive into Figari, or another port, please ask for details of transport connections. Air tickets and boat reservations available, please ask for a quotation.

Number of participants

Reservations for minimum of 2 participants. NB. For safety reasons we do not accept solo reservations on Self-Guided multi activity holidays.

Level

Gentle for all the family. 3-4 hours of effective walking with ascents. Accessible to occasional walkers and to anyone in good health, you don’t have to be a seasoned hiker to enjoy the walks. You should know how to swim 25m and be able to put your head under water for the canyoning. Children from 8 years old.

A qualified canyoning guide, bike guide, kayak guide and snorkel guide, we provide you with a Travel Dossier with A4 copies of IGN maps and walking notes created by our team. During your holiday our 24-hour assistance service will also be able to answer all your questions and, if necessary, bring you useful tips for the smooth running of your stay.

Luggage transfers

During this holiday you will carry only a small day sack with a water bottle, camera, picnic, trailfood, sun and wet weather gear.
