Self-guided walking - 7 days  



This holiday offers a classic walk which snakes around the foot of the massifs and leads through some charming forests and villages. With enticing views of sweeping bays, rocky creeks and glistening waters, both mountain and sea are forever present. From the “Calanche de Piana” to the Fango Valley, passing through the gulf of Porto and the Scandola natural reserve, you will discover a unique trail through a place classed by UNESCO as a site of world beauty.


Programme

Day 1
Arrive in Ajaccio and check into your hotel. Time to explore the town, the ambiance is Mediterranean and vibrant.

Day 2
For this first day of trekking you have two options to choose from.
There is the option of a ridge walk that leads up behind the town and offers wonderful views of the coastline and the gulf.
from 6km to 11km, from 2h00 to 4h00 , +140m to +340m, -140m to -340m.
From the village of Ota, a walk in the Spelunca Gorge.
14km, 5h30, +780m, -780m.

Day 3
After crossing the Vitrone ravine with its imposing red porphyry rock face, the path then rejoins the Capu San Petru, a splendid rocky belvedere that dominates Serriera and its region.
11km, 6h00, +600m, -900m.

Day 4
The walk leads through through the aromatic “maquis” and pine forests then crosses the Vetricella river, near to the abandoned Pinetu hamlet. Arrival in Curzo.
8km, 4h30, +600m, -460m.

Day 5
Exceptional views of the natural Scandola Nature Reserve, one of the greatest natural sites in Europe. Arrival in Girolata, a small fishers’ hamlet inaccessible by road.
12km, 5h30, +750m, -1000m.

Day 6
The path rejoins the Lucciu ridge (697m) affording a unique view over the Girolata gulf and its red granite cliffs. Descent to Galéria along the Tavulaghju stream.
11km, 6h00, +785m, -785m.

Day 7
Transfer to Calvi in the morning. End of holiday on arrival in Calvi. Possibility of returning to Ajaccio by « U Trinighellu,» the railway that goes through the interior of the island.

Start
At your first hotel in Ajaccio. If day 2 falls on a Sunday or a Bank Holiday then your first 2 nights will be in Ota.
End
At the bus station in Calvi. Speak to us about the possibility of returning to Ajaccio.

The walks are on good footpaths and trails, the terrain is varied but often rocky. You need to be used to walking and take regular exercise to enjoy this holiday.

Carrying
You need to carry a small day sack only with a water bottle, camera, picnic and wind jacket. The main luggage will be transported by vehicle between the different accommodations.
Price includes
Half board accommodation, (evening meal not included in Ajaccio), internal transfers, baggage transfers between hotels, the dossier containing your maps, route notes and all necessary details needed for your holiday.
Price does not include
Transfer Ajaccio-Ota, unscheduled transfers, drinks, picnics, extra activities, holiday insurance and evening meal on the first day.
