Ancient coastal paths that over-hang the sea, provide walker with a unique panorama of villages steeped in history… This holiday offers you the chance to discover some fantastic places such as the Aiguilles de Bavella, the interior, the historical capital, Corte, Niolu valley, encircled by the highest mountain summits, Aitone forest, the villages of Evisa and Ota and the Spelunca gorge. Your destination is the fabulous gulf of Porto where the deep blue sea and famous ‘Calanches de Piana’, granite needles and sculpted rock formations await you.


Programme

Day 1
Ascent through the Alta Rocca to the village of Zonza. Time to settle into your hotel.
A walk that leads along the GR20 and follows the ancient transhumance trail that joins Conca and Bavella, slowly winding down to the charming Paliri refuge.
7km, 5h00, +540m, -540m.

A walk to the Trou de la Bombe, a circular opening that pierces the Paliri crest of peaks. A pleasant walk under Larriccio pine trees and superb views over the gulf of Porto Vecchio.
6km, 3h00, +300m, -300m.

Day 2

A spectacular walk through tall needles of rose granite that tower above you. You will pass by different pinnacles, such as, the Acellu, Ariettu, Vacca and the Pargulu.
12km, 7h00, +900m, -900m.
You leave behind Bavella for Solenzara via a picturesque, winding trail. The walk takes you along the eastern coast to Aléria before arriving in Corte, Corsica's historical capital.

Day 3
A walk in the Tavignano gorge amidst Mediterranean vegetation of blue and black island lavender, curry plant and juniper. A great swimming and picnic spot, smooth sun baked rocks, inviting clear rock pools - a haven of wild beauty.

Day 4
Ascent through the Restonica Gorge then a walk to the lakes of Melo and Capitellu.
6km, 4h30, + 500m, - 500m.
The road that rejoins Calacuccia leads you through the famous 'Scala di Santa Regina', a wild and arid place built into the granite.

Day 5
The walk starts at the col de Vergio then follows the GR20 to the Lac de Nino. Most of the walk is along a mountain ridge, affording a wide view across the mountain massifs, the highest on the island.
14km, 7h00, +600m, -600m.
After the walk descent to Evisa village.

Day 6
From Castel de Vergio you follow the GR20 past the Radule bergeries nestled amongst granite rocks. You pass many natural swim spots on your way to the Ciuttulu di i Mori refuge (1990m), where you will discover spectacular views of the West coast.
12km, 6h30, +590m, -590m.
After the walk descent to Evisa village.

Day 7
The trail takes you closer to the sea along the Spelunca gorge in the heart of a pink granite massif and to Ota, a typical Corsican villange. In Porto you will discover species of flora characteristic of the Mediterranean.
7km, 4h00, +300m, -300m.

Day 8
Discover the 'Calanche di Piana', granite needles, tortured shapes and rock sculpted formations. The most dramatic part of the coastline, classed by UNESCO as a site of world beauty.
11km, 4h30, +500m, -500m.
A coastal walk that is absolutely spectacular. A path leads out to a promentary known as Capu Rossu. The cliffs plunge straight down to the pounding sea below and a Genoese tower awaits you high above.
7.5km, 4h00, +522m, -522m.
We will communicate the time of the public bus back to Ajaccio when you reserve. The time changes during the season. You may have time to walk down to the small cove of Ficaghiola for a swim.
