Setting out from Ajaccio, an original programme that will take you across the most attractive part of the island, allowing sumptuous mountain and sea views. The gulf of Sagone, the Greek village of Cargèse, the Col de Vergio, and the Niolu Valley. Corte, the island’s historical capital, is a rare treat to be discovered and the climb up through the majestic pine trees to the forests of Vizzavona is another of this week’s highlights.
Day 1 Arrive in Ajaccio and check into your hotel. Time to explore the town, the ambiance is Mediterranean and vibrant.
Day 2 Cycling along the coastal route, heading north you will pass the vast gulf of Sagone. Continue to Cargèse, the picturesque Greek village. 51km, 725m, 645m.
Day 3 The spectacular chaos of red granite pinnacles perfumed by the clinging maritime pines, down to Porto, then up around the Spelunca gorge to arrive in Evisa, the pearl of the mountains. 66km, +1350m, -580m.
Day 4 Through the pine tree forest of Aitone over the Col de Vergio to enjoy a wonderful descent towards the remote, traditional Niolu Valley and on to Corte. 66km, +950m, -1330m.
Day 5 Cycling through the valley of the Restonica, high mountain peaks above and the pounding emerald waters of the torrent below with its succession of rock pools. A day of wild natural beauty to be remembered. 32km, +930m, -930m.
Day 6 From Corte, you can explore the region of the Venecais the hilltop villages South of the old capital Vénaco, Vivario and on Vizzavona. 32km, +995m, -315m.
Day 7 A superb descent towards the sea by the valley of Gravona and on to Ajaccio. 60km, 750m, 1720m.
Day 8 End of holiday in Ajaccio.
